How to secure direct purchase orders on GeM?

GeM, an online platform introduced by the Government of India, streamlines the procurement of goods from Indian businesses. It connects buyers with suitable sellers and facilitates purchasing. All participants must be registered on GeM. Many buyers use GeM for straightforward procurement, similar to consumers shopping on platforms like Amazon, Flipkart, etc. Once orders are placed, sellers receive GeM purchase order notifications, which they can accept or reject after evaluating the relevance of the consignment.

Purchasing directly on the Government eMarketplace (GeM) refers to the ability of government departments to place orders directly, akin to an e-commerce platform. Orders below ₹25000 can be placed directly within the GeM portal. Get all the current GEM tenders’ information under relevant online tender platform. You can view all the active tenders and the status of past GEM e-tender, you can also get the latest tenders of India like JK govt tenders, Kerala government tenders and other states’ PSU/Private tenders.

What is a direct purchase order on GeM?

A direct purchase order allows buyers to procure products/services valued up to ₹25000, meeting quality, specifications, and delivery criteria, from any available GeM seller.

How to secure orders on GeM portal?

For MSMEs seeking direct purchase orders on GeM, the process resembles typical e-commerce platforms such as IndiaMART. Buyers log into their registered GeM accounts, search for desired products, and proceed to place orders.

For instance, imagine you’re a registered GeM business selling sensors. The aerospace department requires 100 sensors from local vendors. The department logs in, searches for sensors, selects a vendor based on preferences and budget, and places the order. The chosen vendor receives a purchase order notification.

Where are purchase order notifications found on GeM?

Sellers who have listed products/services on GeM are likely to receive direct purchase orders, visible as notifications within their GeM accounts. Access these by clicking the “orders” tab on the homepage. The resulting page displays received purchase orders.

Sellers can accept or reject orders, considering product relevance. Upon acceptance, they input consignment details and tax information, generating an invoice for the consignee.

How to accept purchase order notifications on GeM?

1. Click the “order” tab on the GeM homepage.

2. Accept the order by clicking “accept.”

3. Click “view details” and provide required information.

4. Tap “generate” to create the consignee bill.

Key points about direct purchase orders on GeM

Direct purchase limit: Orders below ₹25,000 qualify for direct purchase. For orders between ₹25,000 and ₹5,00,000, a comparison is made between three OEMs. Orders exceeding ₹5,00,000 mandate bidding or Reverse Auction (RA).

  • Ensuring direct purchase order reception:

While creating a GeM account, selecting accurate categories is crucial. Misclassification may hinder relevant direct purchase orders. After registration, review the listed categories under “categories” on the homepage for precise classification.

  • Creating a new category:

When your offering lacks a suitable category, request GeM to create one. To add a new product/service, follow: Homepage >> Catalogue >> Products/Services >> Add a new offering. Choose the “Can’t find a suitable category?” option to propose a new category or changes.

  • Non-acknowledgment of accepted orders:

Unacknowledged acceptances are deemed accepted after 21 days following buyer updates. GeM automatically generates a Consignee’s Receipt and Acceptance Certificate (CRAC).

Direct purchase orders on GeM enhance sales, distinct from e-tendering. GeM integrates with the Central Public Procurement Portal, facilitating tender exploration.

Concluding thoughts

In conclusion, the Government eMarketplace (GeM) stands as a transformative platform introduced by the Government of India to revolutionise the procurement process. Direct purchase orders on GeM streamline the acquisition of goods and services for government departments, mimicking the simplicity of e-commerce platforms. This user-friendly approach allows orders under ₹25,000 to be swiftly placed, enhancing efficiency and accessibility. GeM serves as a dynamic bridge connecting buyers with sellers, creating a digital marketplace that transcends traditional procurement methods. The process, reminiscent of popular online marketplaces, empowers Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to tap into government procurement opportunities. By leveraging GeM, these businesses can not only expand their sales figures but also contribute to the country’s economic growth.
